Celebrating my one-year anniversary of living in Colombia

Arriving in Cartagena, Colombia by sea
One year ago today, my friends and I sailed from Panama to Colombia, making our entrance to South America at Cartagena.  Initially I was only planning on staying in Colombia for 1 month (which is still a significant amount of time when you're travelling).  But one year later, I find myself still living here.  So I'd like to take this opportunity to reminisce a bit on the evolution of a trip.
In the planning stages of this trip, I had debated on whether or not to buy a round-the-world airfare ticket or just winging it and piecing together one way segments.  I decided on the latter, so that I wouldn't be stuck to an itinerary.  I had heard of so many people who had changed their tickets countless times because they either fell in love with one place or had decided they wanted to visit another place that wasn't in their plans.  I loved the idea of an being able to stay or leave at a moments notice, depending on what inspired me.  So I bought a one way ticket to Mexico and decided to leave the rest to chance.

I recall one of my favorite moments was during the first week of my trip.  I arrived to Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula and started exploring the area with a great group of people I had met, including Joel at AdventureJo.com.  I had no plans and was open to anything.  I had met someone on Isla Holbox who wanted to show me Chichen Itza and the surrounding areas.  But the guys were heading south to Belize.  So I had to decide whether to stay in Mexico or head south.  I really had no clue what to do, so on a whim, I flipped a coin and left it to chance.  Heads I head south, tails I stay.  It came up heads and I ended up sharing some crazy adventures with my first "travelling band".
Later on, while travelling through Central America, I heard a lot about Colombia and how it was not to be missed.  So after about 4 months of constant travelling, I had planned to slow down a bit and hang out in Medellin for a month before continuing on.  That month stretched into a year and here I am still in Colombia.  The past year here has been incredible and you won't believe some of the stories that I'm going to tell you about my adventures here.  For example, there was that time we were at full gallop on horseback riding through the forest in Tayrona National Park and I almost died when...

To be continued ;)

Vacations to exotic locations are not only difficult to plan, they are typically very expensive. However, if you work with a travel agency that puts together group travel packages to exotic locations like Fiji, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and other tropical paradises, not only can you have that ultimate vacation but you will be able to actually afford it fairly easily.

Making use of an online travel agency has its benefits. For one, you don't have to go through the hassle of visiting a booking office in person. And two, you can often save money if you book your travels online.

If you are planning for a vacation or any of the business trips you might be considering the option for renting a car. Nowadays, rental cars are more reasonable and suitable. They offer to you as well as to your family to make your own schedules for tourist attractions and entertainment opportunities.
